   India backs UN map resolution but rejects any depiction inconsistent with its map⁴⁵

   India said support for equitable cartographic representation does not endorse maps showing J&K and Ladakh differently from India's official map.

   • Resolution adopted 4 September 2026 by 164 votes

   Vessel GFS Galaxy attacked off Oman; 10 Indians rescued, one missing⁶⁷⁸

   The Cyprus-flagged container ship GFS Galaxy was attacked off Oman near the Strait of Hormuz on 12 July 2026; of 11 Indian crew, 10 were rescued and one was missing. US Central Command said Iranian forces struck the ship; Iran said it was on an unauthorised route; India condemned the attack. The missing sailor, third engineer Herambh Karmarkar of Pune, was confirmed dead on 15 July.

   MEA named Vipul, a 1998-batch IFS officer, as India's next Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (reported 2 June 2026). He was India's Ambassador to Qatar before the posting. He assumed charge in Riyadh on 12 August 2026.

   India joins 8th Abu Dhabi Dialogue ministerial consultations in Dubai¹²¹³

   Labour-origin Asian states and Gulf destination states met in Dubai on 31 January and 1 February 2026 and adopted the Eighth Joint Ministerial Declaration. India's delegation was led by MEA Additional Secretary Prashant Pise, who also held talks with UAE officials on migrant worker protection and skills.
