   The Kerala (Alteration of Name) Act 2026, passed by Lok Sabha on 11 August and Rajya Sabha on 12 August, got assent on 14 August and commenced on 25 August.

   • Kerala officially became Keralam from 25 August 2026
   • Union Home Ministry notified the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Act, 2026 into force
   • Lok Sabha passed the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill on 11 August and Rajya Sabha on 12 August
   • Notification came just before Onam

   Union Cabinet approves renaming Kerala as 'Keralam'⁴⁵⁶⁷

   The Union Cabinet on 24 February approved a proposal to rename Kerala as Keralam, starting the Article 3 process: the draft Bill goes to the state assembly for its views before Parliament passes it and the First Schedule is amended.
